Action

The PREMEDICARE COST Action is a pan-European network within the framework of COST which aims to improve the treatment of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients stimulating the networking of researchers from different backgrounds and the development of research projects through four working groups.

COST Action structure

The structure of the PREMEDICARE COST Action follows the general structure of COST Actions, with a few specific features. Our COST Action includes four working groups, in addition to the standard leadership positions, and also includes a Training School Coordinator, as we strongly believe in the educational value this provides for young researchers in PREMEDICARE.

The Working Groups

The PREMEDICARE Action is organised around four Working Groups

Working Group 1 Understanding the cause and genetic basis of OHCA in the young

1.1Share knowledge and evidence of successful approaches to compile data on the genetic and molecular basis for OHCA in patients under 50-years
1.2Facilitate better recording of clinical, genetic, and forensic data to enable identification of at-risk individuals across Europe
1.3Define standards for genetic and forensic data digitalization and use in OHCA research

Working Group 2 Targeted treatment of (potential) OHCA patients

2.1Identify areas in which young people are at higher risk of OHCA
2.2Understand geographical differences (clinical, psychological, sociodemographic, cultural, and environmental) in the approach to treatment of young OHCA patients
2.3Determine whether differences in the treatment of OHCA patients, in particular treatment personalization, impacts outcomes

Working Group 3 Understanding the long-term burden of OHCA in the young

3.1Identify possible clinical, genetic, socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental predictors of long-term adverse psychological conditions associated with OHCA and how these factors can be assessed in a systematic way across different settings across Europe
3.2Evaluate the nature of the societal and economic burden of psychological distress on quality of life in OHCA survivors under 50-years
3.3Catalyse further research into better management of long-term psychological conditions linked to OHCA survival to minimise impact of QoL

4.1Widely promote the PREMEDICARE Action, and its results, to relevant stakeholders
